Are you looking for ways to boost creativity and imagination in your class?
Are you interested in using poetry to encourage expression, reflection and a sense of self?
Are you a key stage or primary leader looking to boost confidence, enjoyment and progress in creative writing across your school?
If so, look no further. Our Every Child a Poet workshop is exactly what you need to foster a true love of writing in your school.
I developed this workshop during my role as English Lead at the British School Manila and the results were fantastic. Within weeks, students of all year groups and grades were coming to me to share their poems. Teachers also discovered renewed passion and confidence in teaching creative writing. I believe in this course so much that I guarantee you and your colleagues will want to spring immediately into poetic action as soon as if finishes!
This workshop is 4 hours in duration. This can be split across two days or ran as one morning or afternoon INSET if your school timetable allows.
Structure and Set Up
Part One (1.5 hours- presentation and training)
- How to plan for poetry (interleaving, spacing a retrieval in English)
- How to use poetry to practise grammar and syntax skills;
- How to create Free Verse poems that your students will love! (It's time to move away from acrostic and limerick models, don't you think?)
- How to create poetry models, patterns and structures which students can use as a springboard to become successful poets.
Part Two (2.5 hours- planning rotation with teams)
Part two of this course involves planning with teaching teams. Depending on cohort sizes, I'll support year groups in planning their next English unit with a poetry focus. Together, we'll implement spacing and retrieval, write and prepare poetry models for upcoming classes and consider next steps. This is the part in the course where we can personalise the content to suit your students.
*This workshop is available face-to-face or online. For face-to-face workshops, additional travel costs may be added depending on the location of your school.*
